Kia ora and hello! My name is Tony Yuan, who lived at Wellington, New Zealand around 9 years. I currently graduated from Victoria University of Wellington (VUW) with Master of Commerce major in Information Systems. Before that, I got my undergraduate degree with Bachelor of Science major in Computer Science from VUW. My study focuses on the design of distributed and networked solutions. My study of networking, includes the network elements, applications, content and the distributed systems that make up the service-enabling technologies.

Skills include front-end and back-end programming, analytical thinking and creative problem solving. SUMMARY OF RELEVANT SKILLS

Teamwork
  • Listening, questioning, persuading, respecting, sharing, helping and participating was an essential skills as part of every group working.
  • Developing website is a complex job, and it require team members could clear communicate with project manager and designer to meet the project requirements.
Communication
  • Conducting a three hours presentations in front of both lecturers and students built my public speaking confidence and refined skills when I studied at university.
  • As part of my job at Kolotex, I also involved in retail experience if have lack of staff. I am able to deal with customer complaints and difficulties of shop management.
Problem Solving
  • The skill of problem solving has been dominant through my study. I usually
    following five steps to solving problems for my project: (1) identify the problem; (2) define the problem; (3) develop a strategy; (4) organise the available information; and (5) allocate resources.
  • The retail experience also help me develop ability to deal with customer complaints to find an appropriate solutions in a calm and efficient manner.
Leadership
  • As a team leader of course project at university, our team designed an autonomous vehicle based on Arduino UNO board and won the second place during the group competition. I learned how to communicate and listen with team members, and developed constructive feedback and direction to my team during the competition.
  • I’m a quick learner for a team player. I’m able to plan and schedule work in advance to ensure completed on time.

My master research project help me acquired project management skills, such as data gathering, critical analysis, written communication, problem-solving and self-management.

Kolotex Ltd. is one of the biggest tobacconist in New Zealand. The brand name “Discount T” is a well-known by the local community. As a website developer at Kolotex, my job is responsible for creating and maintaing the web presence for the whole company. I wored with designer to manage large, complex design projects for manager. I also complete detailed programming and development tasks for both front-end website and back-end server. And aslo, I trained other employees to familar and learn new online shop interfaces.

Top Energy Shanxi is a electrial and electronic manufacturing company based on Shanxi Province in China. I worked at the Security Department, the main job is responsible for the “three meetings” affairs (the general meeting of shareholders, board of directors, and board of supervisors), including conference and meeting material preapration, filing documents, disclosure of information to shareholders.

Lime is an American transportation company who provide e-bicycle and e-scooter around the world. My job is help Lime charge scooters all over the Hutt Valley and get paid.

October 2016 – Present International Student Ambassador (volunteer)

Wellington Central Police Station, Wellington

Wellington Central Police Station invited a group of 16 international students at Victoria University of Wellington to become international student ambassadors. I’m luckly to be one of them, our job is to empower international students and Chinese communities to help reduce the risk of victimisation of international students in New Zealand and allow better understanding of the role of police in New Zealand society. I have been trained by Wellington region police several times in order to learn about local crime trends and safety tips to pass onto local Chinese community.
